At a glance
- You can explore the course and guides without an account. Location access is optional.
- Contact messages are used to help you, not to sign you up for marketing.
- Website analytics are optional. The native iPhone, iPad and Apple TV apps contain no advertising or analytics SDK.
1. Who is responsible
Edan Edison, trading as Manx Digital, is the data controller for personal information handled by Skeet Spot. Our address is 8 Kirby Hill, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM2 1PA. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected], use the contact form’s Privacy topic, or write to us.
This notice covers the Skeet Spot website and native iPhone, iPad and Apple TV apps. External websites and providers may act as separate controllers under their own privacy notices.
2. Information you provide
The contact form asks for your name, email address, topic and message. We also receive the platform you used and a submission identifier to prevent duplicate messages. We use this information to respond, investigate a correction or issue, and handle privacy requests. Please avoid passwords, payment card details and unnecessary sensitive or precise-location information.
If you separately register for Skeet Spot updates, we receive your email address and consent choice and use our email service to manage that subscription. Contacting us does not subscribe you. You can unsubscribe from updates using the email’s unsubscribe link or by contacting us.
3. Location, searches and directions
Location access is optional and is requested only when you choose your current location for directions. The browser or iOS asks for permission; the resulting coordinates are sent to Skeet Spot and ManxMaps to find a nearby starting place and plan the route. We do not track your journey in the background. You can search for a starting point instead and change permission in your browser or iOS Settings.
Bundled course and address searches run locally. Online address, postcode, reverse-location and route requests send the search terms, selected places or coordinates and route options needed to provide results. Postcode lookups may use Postcodes.io and OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service. Our postcode cache can retain a postcode result for up to one hour; it is not an account-based search history.
Map selections and route drafts support the current session and are not linked to an advertising profile. Hosting and service logs may nevertheless contain request paths, search terms or coordinates needed to operate and secure those services.
On Apple TV, bundled course and address searches run on the device. The Apple TV app does not request your location or provide driving directions. News and remote images require internet access and ordinary connection information is received by the services delivering them. News may be cached on your Apple TV. Scanning a source, article, contact or update-list QR code opens the destination on your phone as a separate website visit, governed by that website’s privacy notice and choices.
4. Connection information and local storage
Our servers and providers receive ordinary connection information such as IP address, browser or device details, request time, path and response status. We use this to deliver content, diagnose failures and prevent abuse, including short-lived request limits and duplicate-message checks. We do not sell personal information.
The website uses browser storage for its tutorial and cookie choice, and the app remembers whether you have seen its tutorial and may cache downloaded content. Rain starts off when you open the experience. You can clear website data in your browser; removing the app removes its local app data. Neither requires an account.
5. Optional website analytics
Google Analytics loads on the website only if you choose Allow analytics. It may use cookies and identifiers to measure visits, pages viewed, approximate region and browser or device information so we can improve the website. We do not enable Google advertising storage, advertising user data or advertising personalisation, and do not intentionally send contact message contents, names, email addresses or route coordinates to analytics.
You can reject analytics without losing access to Skeet Spot, or change your choice through Cookie settings on the website. Withdrawing consent stops further analytics collection and clears Google Analytics cookies accessible to our site; it does not undo processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Your cookie choice is stored on that browser.
The native iPhone, iPad and Apple TV apps have no advertising or third-party analytics SDK and do not request advertising tracking permission. Apple may separately process diagnostics and TestFlight feedback according to your Apple settings and its own privacy notice. Opening our website from the app is a separate website visit.
6. Why we use information
We rely on legitimate interests to provide the information and routes you request, respond to enquiries, correct content, maintain reliability and prevent misuse, balancing these interests against your rights. Where processing is necessary to fulfil an agreement or take steps you request before an agreement, we rely on contract.
We rely on consent for optional website analytics and update-list marketing. You can withdraw consent at any time. A device location permission lets the feature access your location; the purpose and lawful basis for our handling of the resulting request are explained above. We also process information where necessary to meet legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
We do not use personal information to make solely automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects, or to create advertising profiles. Automated request limits may temporarily block repeated requests to protect the service.
7. Providers, news and external links
We share information only as needed with hosting and delivery providers, ManxMaps for searches and routes, ManxMail and its email delivery providers for contact messages and update subscriptions, and Google when you allow website analytics. Postcodes.io and Nominatim can receive the postcode queries needed for lookups.
News is obtained from credited publishers. Loading remote photos or publisher content can contact their hosts directly, which receive ordinary network information. Opening an article, venue, source or transport link takes you to a separate website governed by its own notice.
We may disclose relevant information to professional advisers, regulators or law enforcement where necessary and lawful, or during a business transfer with appropriate safeguards. We do not provide your contact message to venues or travel operators merely because you ask about them.
8. Processing outside the Isle of Man
Our providers may process information in the Isle of Man, United Kingdom, European Economic Area, United States or other countries where they operate. Where required by applicable data-protection law, international transfers must use an adequacy decision, approved contractual safeguards or another lawful mechanism. Contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your request.
9. How long information is kept
We retain contact correspondence for the time needed to answer and follow up your enquiry, then only where needed for legal duties, disputes or security. The period depends on the nature of the request; we do not keep messages solely for future marketing. Update-list information is retained while you are subscribed, with limited records of withdrawals where needed to respect your choice.
Request-limit and duplicate-submission records are short-lived. Diagnostic logs and provider-held records are retained according to their operational and security purpose. Deletion may take time to cycle through backups, and records subject to a legal obligation or dispute may be kept longer. You can ask us about retention or request deletion using the contact details above.
10. Protecting information
We use encrypted network connections, server-side service credentials, input validation, access controls and request limits designed to protect the service and information. No online service can guarantee absolute security. If you suspect a privacy or security issue, contact us without including passwords or private keys.
11. Your rights and complaints
Depending on the information, lawful basis and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct or erase personal information, restrict processing, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and receive information you supplied in a portable format. You can withdraw consent at any time. These rights are not absolute; we may need to keep some information to meet legal obligations or handle claims.
Contact [email protected] or choose Privacy in the contact form to exercise your rights. We may request proportionate information to verify your identity. You can complain to the Isle of Man Information Commissioner or another competent supervisory authority where applicable.
12. Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when our practices change and show the new date above. Where required, we will highlight material changes or ask for a new choice. You can always contact us for help understanding how Skeet Spot handles information.
